Your first trivia night

From a blank TV to a finished game: pair a screen, start a game, run it and see the season.

Before you start

You need a TV with a web browser, and a phone or laptop for you. Players need nothing but their phones. No app, no account.

Do the pairing step once, at least a day before your first night, so you are not fixing a TV with a crowd waiting.

Pair a screen

  1. On the TV, open barquizzes.com/tv. It shows a 6-character code.
  2. In Trivia, open Setup → Screens & tablets.
  3. Type the code, give the TV a name, and press Pair device.

The code expires after 10 minutes. If it has, refresh the TV for a new one.

Start a game

  1. Open Tonight and press New game.
  2. Pick Auto (runs itself) or Manual (I tap Next), then set Seconds per question anywhere from 10 to 60.
  3. Pick a shape, 3 × 10 or Quick 20, and press Create game.
  4. In the game, press Open lobby on TVs. The TV shows a 5-character join code for players.
  5. When the teams are in, press Start first question.

Once you like a game, save it as a template. Next week it is one Start button on Tonight.

During the game

  1. In Manual, press Next ▶ to move on. Auto does it for you.
  2. Use Pause if the room needs a minute, and Skip question if a question is wrong.
  3. Use Show leaderboard or Sponsor break between rounds, then Clear.

Each team gets one answer per question and the first answer counts. A right answer is worth 10 points, plus up to 5 more for speed if you turned Speed bonus on. A team marked "Slow and always right — worth a look" is a hint for you only. It never changes the scores.

After the game

  1. Press End game if it has not finished on its own.
  2. Players can press Sign in to save your team + season points on their phones to collect season points.
  3. Open Season to see the standings.

Venue settings

  1. Open Setup → Venue.
  2. Change the Venue name or Time zone and press Save.
  3. Billing is on the same page.

The name shows on the TV and phones. Your time zone decides when the day turns over, at 4:00 AM.
