How a night runs

Three steps, about four minutes the first time. After that it’s a button.

  1. Pair a screen

A smart-TV browser, or a laptop or stick on HDMI, opens barquizzes.com/tv and shows a code. Type it into the host app, name the screen, done — it stays paired.

  2. Launch a game

Pick Quick 20 for a 40-minute night or a full two-round game with a halftime poll. Auto mode, or a host at the laptop. Guests scan the QR on the TV and type a team name.

  3. Let it run

Timed questions, answers locked when sent, live scores between rounds, the winner on the TV. The host can pause, skip or fix a score at any point.

What the room gets

Make tonight worth coming back for.

A quiet weekday is the opening. These are the parts that turn one night into a regular one.

  • Give your regulars something to defend

Teams can save their name at your venue and earn season points by placement. Standings show on the TV at the start and end of every night; a season is a calendar quarter unless you reset it.

    Season leaders · The Owls 61 · Table 4 58 · Dad Jokes 40

  • Honest by design

The question is only on the TV, so phones can’t search it. Answers lock when sent and the timer is yours to set, 10–60 seconds. The host sees fast-answer signals and can void a question or fix a score.

    Q7 · locked 11/12 · 2 flagged for review

  • Polls between the rounds

A who-wins prediction before the final round, a halftime category pick, or your own question. Results animate on the TV. Polls also run on their own for a crowd that isn’t playing trivia.

Halftime · Which category next? Movies 60%

  • The social wall

Guests post a line from the phone; a manager approves it; it shows on the TV between questions. Your room, on your screens, with you holding the switch.

Wall · 2 waiting for approval · 14 shown tonight

  • Your screens, your sponsor

Put a house special or a local sponsor in the TV footer and between rounds. You sell the placement and you keep what you sell — barquizzes takes no share of it.

  • Questions that stay fresh

Themed packs plus your own by CSV. A question that played at your venue doesn’t come back for six months. Many questions come from the Open Trivia Database, credited; you can read the rest before the night.

Run it from a laptop. Or don’t.

Auto mode runs the whole night on the timer. Host mode gives a real host the controls and keeps their personality in the room: pause for a dispute, skip a dud, drop a poll on the break, read the leaderboard out loud.

  • Start it and tend barAuto mode advances, scores and reveals on its own. Staff still greet, settle disputes and pour.
  • Built for bar Wi-FiA phone that drops rejoins on the same team with its locked answer intact; the TV shows “Reconnecting…” rather than a blank. It still needs your internet.
  • Spanish on the phoneThe player screens switch with the phone’s language. Questions on the TV are in the pack’s language.

Barquizzes Ops · optional, paid

Give the next shift the whole story.

Tonight’s lineup. Side work still open. The repair somebody needs to own. Ops puts the lineup, the follow-ups and the handoff in one place, on one shared tablet with a PIN per crew member — nothing on anyone’s personal phone.

  • Lineup with must-reads, and who has actually read them
  • Side work with photo proof and a manager sign-off
  • Follow-ups with an owner and a due date that carry to the next shift
  • Handoff the incoming manager accepts, with the gaps listed
  • Kudos and points for the people who quietly keep the place running — perks, never cash

Plain answers before you set it up

Which TVs work?
A smart TV with a web browser, or any laptop or streaming stick on HDMI. Pair it once; it stays paired.
What about our Wi-Fi?
Phones and the TV need your internet. Short drops recover on their own; it doesn’t run offline. Try one game in the room first.
What do guests give up?
Nothing to play — no account, no phone number. Saving a team for season points is optional and happens after the game.
We already have a host.
Keep them. Host mode handles timing and scoring so they can run the room — or use auto mode for a second, shorter night.
